Natural Resources in Saskatchewan
We are concluding our unit on natural resources in Saskatchewan. I would like you to comment on at least three of the most important things we discussed or learned about during this unit. Also, you may wish to comment on the following questions:
- Renewable or non-renewable energy resources – what is your first choice? Explain.
- In your opinion, which is Saskatchewan’s most valuable natural resource? Explain.
You are encouraged to put original thoughts in your comments. Your comments will be evaluated and included in your unit assessment. Some comments may even be posted for others to view!

I learned alot about coal and petroleum, and non-renewable resources. I think a renewable resources is the best way to use energy. Saskatchewans valuable natural resource is coal, you can get so much energyout of coal.

I found out about how you get the natural gas and coal and everything to your house. Before I just thought like ‘yeah it’s here’ but I never really knew where it came from and how it got to my house. I think using renewable reasourses are the best because they can be made again so they won’t run out. Saskatchewan’s most valuable natural reasource is coal because you can get alot of energy out of it.

Some things we talked about in this unit were Natural Resources, types of mining, and the uses of Coal, Natural Gas and Oil. I ended up knowing a lot more about these things than when i started the unit. I think I would rather use Renewable natural resources. I’d rather that because we can use as much of it as we want and we don’t have to worry about running out. There might be a lot better and more valuable Non-renewable natural resources but we’re eventually going to run out. I think our most valuable natural resource is natural gas. I think this because it doesnt harm the environment nearly as much as some other things like coal. It also helps us do a lot of things like drive, heat our homes and barbeque.

I learned that coal is ranked according to moisture and carbon, and that lignite is the most famous in Saskatchewan. Also that athercite is the highest ranked coal. I also learned that petroleum has two differenet forms, crude oil and Natural Gas. Coal also produces the 47% of the world’s electricity and75% of steel, also that Saskatchewan is ranked third in Canada with production of Natural gas.

I learned about crude oil, coal, and petroleum, what they, why there important, and how much we rely on them in our everyday life. I also learned about non-renewable and renewable resources. I think renewable resources are the best because they can replenish and our cleaner. Saskatchewans most valuable natural resource is coal, because it is the worlds most abundant fossil fuel, it gives us electricity, heat homes and is very important in steel production.

[...] My third new voice in response to Miguel’s prompt is really new to the scene of blogging; Steven Michaluk. Steven is a teacher here in Saskatchewan. Better yet, he is from my home town and we rode the same bus. I think I even babysat him once! [...]

Hi, Steven! Kelly Christopherson sent me! You are off to a good start, one newbie to another. I began blogging in Dec. 2006. I like the way you are using blogging in your teaching. I may introduce blogging to my 8th graders following the March Break in late March when they return.
